The live wire or primary power line at a surge protector contains an extra linked connection that feeds to an earth cable. A ground cable’s purpose would be to direct any additional current safely into the floor. The surge connection in the shield remains inactive until a bigger than normal voltage appears. This extra current is then securely redirected through the extra earth wire, directly into the ground. This prevents more current than normal from flowing to your appliances effectively ensuring they are protected from any harm that could be caused by power surges.
