Power Surge Protection

Power surges can occur unexpectedly and at any time. They may be caused by a broad range of factors such as faulty appliances, storms, abrupt voltage fluctuations onto a circuit, and also provide faults from the electricity provider. Often power surges are a result of an interruption in the flow of electricity, then established again or directing electricity back into the infrastructure, such as by lightning. How a surge protector works

The live cable or main power line at a surge protector includes an additional linked connection that feeds into a ground wire. An earth wire’s purpose would be to direct any additional current safely into the ground. The surge connection in the shield stays inactive until a larger than normal voltage appears. This excess current is then safely diverted through the extra earth wire, directly into the floor. This prevents more current than normal from flowing into your appliances effectively ensuring they are protected from any harm which can be caused by power surges.
